Dermablading is a popular non-invasive treatment among those seeking healthy, glowing skin and the removal of fine ‘peach fuzz’ facial hair. During a dermablading (also known as dermaplaning) treatment, dead skin and fine hairs are removed using a sterile blade. The technique exfoliates the skin, instantly revealing brighter, smoother and silkier skin.
With plenty of dermablading information flying around the internet on blogs, vlogs and social media, it can be tough to decipher fact from fiction. We’ve put together a list of the most common misconceptions when it comes to this popular skin brightening treatment.
Dermablading is known to improve the appearance of skin by refining, brightening, exfoliating and creating a smooth surface for products. Regular dermablading will also remove dead skin and increase cell turnover leaving you looking healthy and refreshed all year round.
This is a common misconception with any form of hair shaving – but biologically it’s impossible. The reality is, shaving with any blade will leave a blunt tip as the hair regrows, which feels different to a natural tapered point. The fine hair removed by dermablading is so thin and soft that it won’t appear or feel any different when it grows back. However, dermaplaning is not recommended for those with hormonal imbalance related facial hair or in areas where an individual might have darker or thicker hairs like the upper lip.
Dermablading is 100% safe for people with all skin tones and is actually one of our favourite skin exfoliators for this reason. The technique doesn’t irritate or cause micro-abrasions to the skin like scrubs can, so it won’t result in hyperpigmentation of the skin.
Quite the contrary! Dermablading is one of the least painful methods of hair and dead skin removal. The process feels like a gentle tickle or sweeping sensation.
While you can buy tools to use at home to shave your peach fuzz, they don’t have the same overall brightening and skin rejuvenation results as an in-clinic treatment. Our technique draws the specialised sterile blade over the skin on a 45-degree angle designed to remove the superficial layer of skin and dead skin cells and hair removal at a deeper level. We also apply a peptide mask to hydrate the skin.
Once again, this myth is simply not true. Dermablading removes excess oils, debris and dead skin from the face, increasing cell turnover and revealing fresh, glowing skin. Keep in mind though, that although dermablading will not cause breakouts, it is not suitable if you have existing acne.
